History of our Montessori schools
In the nineties, Montessori insitutions were only located in Dar es Salaam. With the intention of spreading Montessori education all over the country, Mwanza, a town in the north of Tanzania was chosen to be a suitable place for new Montessori schools.
In 1998, two Kindergarten houses were built with financial support of the "Dreikönigsaktion Austria". 150 children were educated in 4 classrooms. In 1996 the construction of the Kindergarten was completed. the building also includes a dining room . Today 180 children attend the kindergarten.
Based on parents demand for a Primary school Sr. Denise Mattle started building a Primary School in the Kiloleli area, which is three kilometres away from the Kawekamo hill. The first Standard I course started in 2000, but it had to take place in Kawekamo, as the buildings in Kiloleli had not yet been finished.
Enabled by the financial support of private sponsors, local organisations and parents, who contributed 8000 Tsh per year, the following years four blocks were built.
In 2004 the Kawekamo Montessori Primary School in Kiloleli was completed. It today consists of four blocks, of which each one contains four classrooms, a computer room, a library, a gym hall and a dining room for the staff. On the 11.November 2004 Tanzian president Benjamin Mkapa visited the school for a splendid opening ceremony. Today 610 students are taught by 30 teachers in our Primary school.
To provide the students with high quality Montessori education even after the graduation from the Primary school, it was decided to start building a Secondary School. In 2006 the construction of the first block for the secondary school started, so that today already Form I and Form II students can attend the secondary school lessons in Kiloleli. We are now building a second block with four more classrooms and a block for laboratorys for biology and chemistry lessons. Today 180 students in four classes attend the secondary school in Kiloleli. |
